S NRC STAFF RESP 014SE TO UCS MOTION FOR
'5/ ZT TRANSCRIPT CORRECTION The Unun of Concerned Scientists filed a " Motion for Transcript Correction" on June 18, 1981. This Motion requests the Licensing Board to make certain corrections to the transcript in the TMI-1 restart proceeding.
For the most part, the Staff dres not oppose the Motion.
Its position is set forth below.l.f As the licensee notes in its response, two of the corrections sought by UCS (Tr. 8309 at line 18 and Tr. 8717 at line 6) do not correlate to the recorded discussion at the locations indicated by UCS.
The Staff assumes that this reflects typographical errors in the UCS Motion.U If The licensee responded to the UCS Motion on June 26, 1981.
y If UCS desires to correct Tr. 8717 at line 13 (rather than 6) to "the illogical position" (Motion at 2 (emphasis supplied)), the Staff has no objection. The Staff could not find a similar explanation for the other erroneous transcript reference.

. In addition, UCS proposes to correct the statements of individuals other than those of UCS' counsel or witness. These statements are: Tr. 5695 and 8051 (Jordan), Tr. 6131 (Adler). Tr. 7629 (Keaten), Tr. 8609 (Conran) and Tr. 9328 (Torcivia).
Assuming Dr. Jordan, Mr. Adler, and Mr. Keaten agree with the corrections UCS suggests, the Staff does not object to those modifications. After consulting with Mr. Conran, the Staff also agrees to the correction of his testimony.
However, inasmuch as the licensee believes Mr. Torcivia's testimony was accurately recorded (Licensee's Answer to UCS Motion, dated June 26, 1981, at 1), the Staff does object to this proposed correction.
The other corrections sought by UC5 all pertain to statements made by UCS' counsel or its witness and the Staff does not object to them.
Respectfully submitted, h
cl Lucinda Low Swartz Counsel for NRC Staff Dated at Bethesda, Maryland this Bth day of July,1981.
