SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF APRIL 28, 1981 MEETING REGARDING SEISMIC DESIGN MERGINS 1.

General Representatives of the staff met on April 28, 1981 with representatives of the applicant to discuss seismic design margins. The meeting was held at the NRC Offices in Bethesda, Maryland. A list of those persons who attended the meeting is included in the enclosure.

2.

Purpose l

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the applicant's work to date in responding to the ACRS comments on seismic design margins for the facility.

3.

Discussion The applicant stated that it will provide in Amendment 26 to the FSAR an assessment to demonstrate that the facility can safely cope with reservior induced seismic events up to and including an ML=5.5 event.

The applicant stated that the zero period acceleration value (0.229) is the same for the ML=4.5, 5.0 and 5.5 events. This results from the applicant's assumptions regarding the source diameter and source distance i

for these events. The applicant plans to document the bases for these assumptions in about two weeks.
