4 Mr. Bernard Ostarmier 20714 Tulsa screet Chatsworth, CA 91311 Dear Mr. Osterniers This replies to your January 10 letter addressed to Chairman Ahearna.
As you know, Three Mile Island Unit I has remained shut down by order of the Commission since the March 1979 accident at Unit 2 and will remain shut down pending further order of the Constission.
In that context, the staff is considering what :hanges would be required in light of that accident and a public hearing is being held to consider these and other matters related to possible restart.
In the maaheima, the licenses has asked the (.:mmissien to authorize restart of Unit 1 before the hearing is finished, and the Commission has asked for public comment on that matter.
The staff also is continuing work on development of a seminar for nave media representatives dealing'.with.4ew power reactors work and basic information about radiation. Iraxpect that this seminar will be presented for the first time in mid-March at ou office in Walnut Creek, California.
