REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CONCERNING TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR SPENT FUEL STORAGE POOL MODIFICATIONS -

MILLSTONE 2 (TAC N0. M86361)

In our review of your application for amendment dated May 14, 1993, concerning the technical specifications related to the proposed modification of the Millstone 2 Spent Fuel Storage Pool, we have identified the need for additional information.

The enclosure provides details concerning the information that is needed.

Since we are delaying issuance of the Federal Reaister notice until we have information such as. hat which is requested, we request a quick response.

The requirements contained in this letter affects fewer than 10 respondents and, therefore, is not subject to Office of Management and Budget review under P.L.96-511.

What was the highest accident spent fuel pool temperature assumed in criticality analysis for Region C? 2. Which specific calculations were performed with CASM0-3 and which were performed with NITAWL-KENO-5.a? If both codes were used for a given spent fuel pool configuration, how did their results compare? -{ 3. How many neutron histories were used in each of the KENO-5.a calculations? 4. Describe the physical mechanism that makes the poison pins an integral part of the fuel assembly such that they cannot be accidentally removed. 5. Describe the procedural controls in place to determine if poison pins are required and to prevent the misloading of the poison pins? l 6. What is the approximate reactivity decrease in a Region C-fuel assembly due to the insertion of three poison pins? 7.
