LIMERICK GENERATING STATION, UNITS I AND 2, REVISION TO NATIONAL EXAMINATION SCHEDULE FOR REQUALIFICATION EXAMINATIONS This letter is in response to your request dated March 31,1993, to change the national examination schedule (NES) month for the Limerick Genemting Station requalification examinations from January to the October / November time frame. We understand that your request is based on eliminating licensed operator schedule and resource conflicts with the Limerick Generating Station Units 1 and 2 refueling outages. The Limerick refueling outages for each unit are based on a 24 month fuel cycle and are normally scheduled for the January / February time frame.

Based on your request, we will change your national examination schedule months to October and July. Approval of the change is based on Limerick SRO/RO requalification examinations being administered in October and SRO/RO/LSRO initial and LSRO requalification examinations being administered in July. While we accept your request, we also anticipate some adverse consequences if an individual fails an initial examination in July.

It may not be possible to administer a reexamination in October due the requirements of 10 CFR 55.35.a or due to insufficient time to prepare the examination. The next available examination date may be the following July. The consequences are acceptable if an individual fails a requalification examination and the requalification program is considered to be satisfactory. The retake requalification examination will be performed the following July and will extend the period between examination failure and the retake examination from 6 months to 9 months.
