Illinois Power Company FACILITY: Clinton Power Station
SUBJECT:
MEETING
SUMMARY
OF APRIL 27, 1993 On April 27, 1993, representatives of Illinois Power Company (IP) representing both themselves and the Hydrogen Control Owner's Group (HCOG) met with members of the NRC staff at NRC headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, to di.scuss resolution of the HCOG's submittals on hydrogen control in accordance with i
10 CFR 50.44 for BWR6 Mark Ill containments.
A list of attendees is enclosed.
Illinois Power Company representatives provided a brief discussion of the HC0G's activities and current status.
The BWR6 licensees formed the HCOG and funded one-quarter scale testing to demonstrate compliance with 10 CFR 50.44.
Generic testing was performed to demonstrate the overall concept while production runs were made with appropriate modeling to represent plant-specific characteristics.
A topical report was submitted and the staff published a safety evaluation (SE) regarding the generic approach in August 1990. The HCOG took a number of exceptions to the staff's SE which, to this date, have not been resolved Due to a recent reorganization and transfer of responsibilities, new reviewers have been assigned to this issue. The staff indicated that the new review team will review the most recent correspondence and prepare a supplement to the SE. Upon resolution of the exceptions, the HCOG will resubmit the topical report with a copy of the staff's SE.
Within six months of this submittal, each of the four BWR6 Mark III licensees will submit plant-specific reports.
The staff did not have a review schedule available but indicated that one would be prepared in the near future.
