SUBJECT:
DRESDEN PHYSICAL SECURITY INSPECTION
This refers' to the inspection conducted by Mr. T. J. Madeda of this office on
April 7-9 and 12-13, 1993. The inspection included a review of activities
authorized for your Dresden Nuclear Power Station, Units 1, 2, and 3.
At the

conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed with those members
of your staff identified in the enclosed report.
Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report. Within
these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures-
-and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observation of

activities in progress.
Based on the results of this inspection, certain of your activities appeared
to be in violation of NRC requirements, as specified in the enclosed Notice of
Violation (Notice). The violation is of concern because weaknesses in
communications and planning activities resulted in a degradation of a security
barrier.

Although 10 CFR 2.201 requires you to abe,it to this office, within 20 days.of
your receipt of this Notice, a written s_tatement of explanation, we note that
this violation had been corrected and those actions were reviewed during this
inspection. 'Therefore, no response with respect to this matter is required.
Areas examined during this inspection concern a subject matter which is exempt
from disclosure according to Part.'73, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations,
Section 73.21(c)(2). This information must be handled and protected-in
accordance with the. provisions of 10 CFR 73.21. Consequently,- the enclosure
to this letter and our report of this inspection will not be placed 'in' the NRC
Public Document Room.
