At our meeting with Mr. Taylor, yourself and your statT on December 22,1992 we discussed possible activities between the NRC staff and NSP with regard to our license renewal application.
At that meeting we also agreed to meet again early 1993 to discuss the outcome of the senior management review. The purpose of this letter is to apprise you of the current status of the Monticello application and to provide our thoughts on when it might be appropriate to meet again pending the outcome ofyour senior management review.
Although NSP has not yet decided whether to pursue renewal of the Monticello license, because of issues previously identified, we have finished work on a complete draft license renewal application, in furtherance of certain contractual commitments to the Electric Power Research Institute, Sandia National Laboratories, and the U S Depattment of Energy. The form and content of the application, however, may be affected by the results of the current activities surrounding the rule. In addition, over the remainder of 1993 the Monticello project will be preparing task summary reports covering the various tasks which have been accomplished in preparing the Monticello application. These summary reports will be published by the Electric Power Research Institute.

At this time it would seem appropriate to postpone the meeting presiously anticipated for early 1993, pending final resolution of the regulatory issues being resiewed by the NRC senior management resiew team and the Commission. Following final resolution, NSP will then evaluate the changes and be prepared to discuss the appropriate interactions between the staff and NSP for the remainder of 1993.
