This refers to the announced engineering inspection conducted by Mr. H. Gregg of this

office on February 8 - 12,1993, at your corporate engineering offices in Parsippany, New
Jersey, and at the site in Middletown, Pennsylvania, on March 16 - 19, 1993. Mr. Gregg
,
discussed the inspection findings with Mr. Slear and other members of your staff at the
conclusion of the corporate engineering inspection and with Mr. Skillman and other members
of your staff at the conclusion of the site engineering inspection.
Our inspector reviewed design modifications and overall engineering support for Three Mile
Island Unit I activities. Also, site engineering activities and the site-corporate engineering
interfaces were reviewed. The inspection of design modifications and engineering support of
site activities was performed to assure that equipment and systems would continue to perform
their function in protecting the health and safety of the public, and that engineering has an
effective role in this process.

The design modifications reviewed dusg the inspection were carefully developed to provide
improved safety in plant operation. Your engineering management and staff have been
aggressive in performance of design basis document reconstitutions and there was effective
engineering support of TMI-I activities.
