M84997 AND M84998) i By letter dated October 5,1992, you requested relief (Request No. RR-15) from the current applicable American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Code i

requirements, and requested approval to use the requirements of ASME Boiler-and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI, Paragraph IWA 5250(a)(2), which is published in a later ASME Code edition, that arc not referenced for both units.
The staff concludes that the approach proposed by the licensee is' an acceptable alternative to the reocirements of the ASME Code,Section XI, IWA f
i 5250(a)(2), subject to the conditions and findings stated in the enclosed safety evaluation (SE).
The alternate provisions, as qualified in the enclosed SE by the staff conditions and findings, are authorized by law and will not endanger life or property or the common defense and security and are otherwise in the public interest given due consideration'to the burden upon the licensee that could result if the requirements were imposed on the facility.
The request for relief complies with the standards and requirements of the l
Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended (the Act), and the Commission's rules l
and regulations.
