Letter to NRC Document Control Desk from C. R. Horn (NPPD) dated December 29, 1992, Re que s t to use Closed Circuit Television Cameras to Satisfy the Requirement for Continuous Firewatch" In the above reference, the Nebraska Public Power District (District) requested the Nuclear Regulatory Conanission (NRC) to approve the installation and use of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras as an alternate equivalent means of maintaining a continuous firewatch in the location of interest at Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS).
This firewatch was established for two one-hour fire barriers that had been declared inoperable in this area due to the use of Thermo-lag 330-1 material.
Since the time of this request, these two one-hour fire barriers (located on the 882' elevation of the CNS Control Building) have been modified and returned to an operable status, and the continuous firewatch was removed. Accordingly, the District hereby withdraws its request for NRC approval of the use of CCTV cameras as an alternate means of maintaining a continuous firewatch in the area containing the subject one-hour fire barriers.
