REQUEST FOR APPROVAL TO USE ALTERNATIVE TO UPDATE THE INSERVICE INSPECTION PROGRAM - VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT NO. 1 I
By letter dated June 22, 1992, South Carolina Electric & Gas Company submitted' a request to update their Inservice Inspection Program to use a portion of an edition of Section XI of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (ASME Code) that is later than the edition to which they are committed.
Use of the later edition of the ASME Code would obviate the need to conduct an internal inspection of the reactor coolant pump unless the pump is disassembled for maintenance.
The staff has determined that the requested alternative is acceptable.
An evaluation of the request is enclosed.
