Dear Mr. Hall,

In accordance with Part III, Section 12.C., this letter is serving as confirmation of a telephone report of a pipe break made to the State Essergency Response Commission on 3/26/93.

1.

The limitation which has been exceeded: No permit limitation has been-exceeded.~ This event is being reported under Part III, Section 12.A.1. -

"Any noncompliance which may endanger health or the environment'. Under

-normal conditions, the system involved in this event discharge ~s to outfall 3IB00016004, the plant discharge tunnel. 1: is monitored for water temperature, flow rate, and chlorine. Since the pipe break occurred upstream of any heat load'en the vater, there was no change in temperature.

The chlorination system did not operate during the time of the break. The flow rates at the break during.

The extent of the exceedance: Approximately 700,000 gallons of service water vere discharged to the ~ ground.

The cause of the event: A 30-inch diameter pipe carrying plant' service water from the pumphouse to the plant burst.

The period of the event: Approximately 1315 to 1540 on 3/26/93.

If uncorrected, the anticipated time' the exceedance is arpected to continue: ' The service water system was shut off at 1540 on 3/26/93.

Steps being taken to reduce,. eliminate and/or prevent recurrence of the exceedance: An engineering analysis vill be conducted to determine the cause of the break. The results of the analysis vill be used'to' prevent recurrence.
