Waterford 3 SES Docket No. 50-382 License No. NPF-38 Commitment Extension Relative to NRC Audit Report of Effectiveness of Licensee Activities Regarding the Performance of Safety-Related Check Valves'at Waterford 3 Gentlemen:
Entergy Operations, Inc., submitted letter number W3F191-0831 to the staff on December 26, 1991, in response to specific recommendations in the NRC's Audit Report of Effectiveness of Licensee Activities Regarding the Performance of Safety-Related Check Valves at Waterford 3.
By attachment to that submittal, Waterford 3 provided specific responses and implementation schedules for recommendations concerning Inservice Testing (IST) activities, design application review, and training.
The staff recommended that the IST basis document that justifies the inclusion or exclusion of check valves for the IST program be formally reviewed, approved, and maintained by the licensee as part of the IST program.
In response to that recommendation, Waterford 3 agreed to formalize the IST basis document by March of 1993. We requested an

extension for this commitment, to be completed on or before December 18, 1993. This extension was discussed with and concurred by a representative of your staff, on March 11, 1993.
The nine month extension will allow Waterford to update the IST basis document concurrent with a resubmittal of the Waterford 3 IST Plan, scheduled for August, 1993. On-site reviews of the IST basis document will be conducted in the months following that IST submittal.
