0F MEETING BETWEEN U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION
{
STAFF AND BWOG REPRESENTATIVES TO DISCUSS BWOG GENERIC LICENSE-RENEWAL PROGRAM STATUS AND THE BWOG SYSTEM / STRUCTURE-SCREENING l
METHODOLOGY REPORT (MARCH 16,1993)
On March 16, 1993, representatives of the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives from the Babcock and Wilcox Owners Group (BWOG) i Generic License Renewal Program met in Rockville, Maryland, to discuss the-status of the BWOG Generic License Renewal Program and discuss the recent BWOG i
submittal concerning their proposed system / structure screening methodology.
Enclosure I contains a list of meeting attendees. contains copies j
of presentation material discussed at the meeting.

Ms. Staudinger, the Program Coordinator for the BWOG Generic License Renewal
-l Program (GLRP), presented an executive overview on the status of the GLRP.
t She indicated that the BWOG expected to submit several more reports to the NRC staff for its re' view in 1993. The next series of submittals would likely concern component screening methodology and provide-examples of screening l
results. Ms. Staudinger discussed a draft of the BWOG GLRP. process flowchart for conducting an integrated plant assessment.
The staff was particularly interested in the proposed use of risk significance and the use of the aging mechanism evaluations. The staff expressed l
significant reservations about the use of risk significance as depicted _in the process flowchart. BWOG representatives indicated that this proposed process was still preliminary and that the use of risk significance was not intended to eliminate any systems, structures, or components from consideration. BWOG representatives emphasized that they expected the majority of systems, structures, and components will be dispositioned in the license renewal i
assessment process through an effective program evaluation.
j t
The NRC staff and BWOG representatives discussed the BWOG's recent submittal i
['
entitled, " Integrated Plant Assessment -- System / Structure Screening 5
Methodology."
In general, the' staff indicated that more detail would be
-l required to make a substantive conclusion regarding.the submittal. 'The NRC staff and BWOG representatives agreed that additional discussions would be
{
appropriate after the staff reviews the BWOG component. screening methodology and the results from the several plant-specific screenings.
