SUBJECT: NRC Mobile NDE Laboratory Inspection 50-352/93-06 and 50-353/93-06

The enclosed report contains the results of the Mobile Nondestructive Examination
Laboratory inspection performed February 16 through 26,1993, at the Limerick Generating
Station. The inspection was led by Mr. Michael Modes, NDE level III, of this office and
examined the inservice inspection program for safety-related fluid system piping. The
periodic examination of piping systems is intended to detect service induced flaws and initiate
corrective actions before a failure can occur, thus enhancing the overall safety of the facility.

The inspection consisted of independent examinations of safety-related piping and
components using radiography, ultrasonics, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, and visual

inspection techniques. The inspection found the program in compliance with the
requirements prescribed by NRC rules. However, we noted that substantial staffing and
organizational changes are planned in the immediate future. We discussed these changes
with your staff and expressed our concern for any decrease in the effectiveness of the
inservice inspection program.
