NRC Generic Letter 89-13, Supplement 1, Questions and Answers on Generic Letter 89-13, dated April 4, 1990

Dear Dr. Murley:

In LaSalle's original response to Generic Letter 89-13, l

reference (b), it was stated that for the RHR Seal Coolers and LPCS Motor Coolers LaSalle Station performed differential pressure flow tests, but no heat transfer testing.

In order to comply with the Generic Letter the coolers are disassembled and inspected / cleaned once per refuel cycle.

LaSalle Station no longer intends to perform flow testing for these coolers at regular intervals.

These are very small r

heat exchangers and LaSalle will continue to open these heat exchangers every refuel outage for inspection and cleaning.

Inspections have consistently revealed only minor corrosion with little fouling, and the coolers have consistently been able to pass their required flow.
