Dear Mr. MacDonald:
Enclosed please find the consolidated applications pertaining to the MA-3000 (Teledyne Report TES-3233) and the Sentinel-8 (Teledyne Repcrt TES-3231) radioisotope thermoelectric generators for renewal of Certificate of Compliance No. 9030.

Four Kd-3000 RTGs were ranufactured by the Martin Company and fueled in 1966.
One unit was obtained by the U.S. Navy for testing and evaluation and
(
vas disposed.
The remaining three units are presently in storage at Nuclear Sources and Services, Inc. in Houston, Texas.
When Teledyne acquired the Martin Company's Nuclear Division in 1968 the Ed-3000 was redesignated as Sentinel-3.
However, there were no RTGs ranufactured under the title of Sentinel-3.
Therefore, the renewal of Certificate of Compliance No. 9030 should not include the Sentinel-3 designation.
Only one Sentinel-8 R'IG was ranufactured and in 1970 it was installed at the U.S. Navy weather station on San Miguel Island were it remains today.
In addition to the application, contents from previous submittals for the Sentinel-8, the enclosed report, also includes detailed component drawings and the operation and traintenance ranual that you requested in the referenced letter.
The enclosed application contents for the Md-3000 includes material from earlier submittals in addition to two or three other i
reports that are applicable to safety.
However, detailed drawings of components, other than the top assembly drawing, and an operation and raintenance manual are no longer in our archive docu::ents.
i The original Certificate of Compliance and its revisions to date include referenced reports dated September 16,1969, March 3,1970 and April 20, 1970.
The March 3rd date was incorrect and should have been March 30, 1970.
All three of these reports pertain to a thermal analysis associated

with a transportation fire for the case where the cooling fins are distorted or removed as a result of impact.
These reports are applicable to other sentinel RIGS, i.e., Sentinel 25, and were included for other Certificates of i
Compliance.
However, neither the MW-3000 nor the sentinel-8 have cooling
-l fins.
Therefore, these references are not applicable for renewal of I
certificate of Compliance 9030 and are not included in this submittal.

l It should also be noted that neither the - MW-3000 nor the Sentinel-B

will be fabricated in the future.
