Subject:
Status of Facility Drawing Update Efforts Cooper Nuclear Station Docket No. 50-298. DPR-46 Gentlemen:
Reference:
1.
G. A. Trevors to U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission letter dated April 28,1989 (NLS8900175),
"NPPD Response to inspection Report 50-298/89-02."
2.
L. J. Callan (NRC) to G. A. Trevors letter dated May 9,1989.
In Reference 1, the Nebraska Public Power District submitted a discussion of six drawing update efforts being performed at Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS). In Reference 2, the NRC acknowledged receipt of this information and requested to be informed of any significant changes to the completion schedules of the drawing updates. This document provides a status of the various facility drawing update efforts at CNS.
Four of the drawing update programs discussed in Reference 1 have been completed.
They are: Electrical Conduit Hanger, Burns & Roe E-150 Electrical Drawings, Pipe Support, and Appendix R Drawings. Following is a discussion of the two remaining drawing update programs which are still ongoing.
As-Built Verification Project The scope of the As-Built Verification Project is to walk down 244 Safety Related Drawings (Primary Drawings) held in the Control Room at CNS and approximately 1,340 related drawings.
To date, the equivalent of approximately 226 primary drawings and the equivalent of approximately 1,245 related drawings have been completed. Overall, the project is 92.8% done with final completion scheduled for the end of 1993.

. NSD930271 Page 2 March 12,1993 Buildino Structural Core Drill As-building the building structural drawings to show core drills is approximately 80% complete for the Reactor Building. Other site buildings designed to meet Class IS criteria will be included in the scope of this program. Upon completion of this as-building project, CNS will have a set of drawings detailing all floors and walls in Class IS structures with references to core drill permits. Because these drawings will take several years to complete, the original Burns & Roe drawings are being updated and utilized in the interim. CNS Engineering Procedure 3.6.4
" Core Drilling Activities" requires that an analysis and/or documentation be approved by the Civil / Structural Engineering Group prior to any core drilling take place. This process of using existing or new drawings and calculations in conjunction with a plant walkdown provides assurance that the overall structural integrity of Class IS structures is being maintained. The as-building project has been assigned a low priority for completion because an acceptable method for controlling plant changes currently exists. Final completion of this program is not expected before the end of 1995.
Should you have any questions regarding the status of these two programs, please contact me.
