INSPECTION OF RADIATION PROTECTION AND RADWASTE PROGRAMS

This refers to the inspection conducted by Messrs. M. A. Kunowski and N. Shah

of this office-on January 4-22, 1993. The inspection included a review of.

activities authorized at-your Perry Nuclear Power Plant. At the conclusion of

the_ inspection, the findings were discussed with those members of your staff

identified in-the enclosed inspection report. This' report also refers to the-

meeting held on January 7,1993, at Perry between Mr. Charles Norelius of this

office and members of.your staff. Additional telephone discussions were held

with licensee representatives through February 22, 1993, on matters discussed

in.this report

Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the enclosed report.

Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective examination of

procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, independent

dose rate measurements,.and observations of activities in progress.

During this inspection, :ertain of your activities appeared to be in violation

of NRC.requiruments. However, as described in the enclosed inspection report,

you identified these violations. Therefore, the violations will not be

subject to enforcement actions because your efforts in identifying and

correcting the violations meet the criteria specified *. cection VII.B of the

" General Statement of Policy and Procedures for NRC fiforcement Actions"

(Enforcement Policy, 10 0FR Part 2, Appendix C).

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of

this letter and the enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
