This letter confirms verbal authorization provided to Ilene Colina by Donald King, of-my staff, on July 8,1992, to commence work under the subject Task :
Order modification effective July 8, 1992, with-a temporary ceiling of
$12,000.00.
In accordance with Section G.6, Task Order procedures, of the-subject contract, this letter definitires Modification No. 1 to Task Order No. 3.
This effort shall be performed in.accordance with the enclosed Statement'of-Work and Science & Engineering Associates, Inc. 's revised technical proposal l dated July 13, 1992, incorporated herein by reference.
u As a result of this modification, the period.of performance for Task Order No; 3 is hereby extended to September 30, 1992.
The total cost' ceiling is increased by $41,767.00 from-$44,000.00 to
$85,767.00 (this amount is inclusive of the $12,000.00Epreviously authorized). The total reimbursable costs is increased by $38,673.00lfrom

BACKGROUND
- i Following our review of the Sandia GI-153 scoping study,=the NRC' staff-has-identified certain technical bases in the scoping study that' could 'be:
strengthened-to support resolution of GI-153. Therefore, the work scope 1
q should be revised as follow-2.
WORK SCOPE (Modified) j Part 5 (Modified).
>g Complete the Sensitivity.and Uncertainty Analysis of the scoping: study..
(Section 4.7 of_the Ref.1-report). Discuss;the potential effects of'.thef analysis on the alternative modifications examined by the scoping ' study.

DELIVERABLES AND REPORTING The results of this task order will be reported in a letter-type report to the This report will discuss the evaluations for each ' subtask. A " draft" NRC.
letter report will be submitted to the NRC technical manager 30 days following authorization of this task. The final letter report will be submitted within 15 days following identificatton of changes needed to the draft report.
In addition, letter reports will b6 duplicated on micro-computer diskettes with the format being compatable with MS-DOS, or LOTUS 123. format, special.,
graphics in Harvard Graphics, Wordperfect Graphics or Drawperfect compatible format.
The short estimated time period does not warrant monthly progress reports.

PERIOD OF PERr0RMANCE AND CSTIMATED LEVEL OF Err 0RT t
It is estimated that this task will take a total of 7 person weeks of senior technical staff plus clerical support.
The estimated total cost for this effort, based on costs as currently billed to the NRC, will be
$3 6,000. New expiration date should be 9/30/92.

TRAVEL Two two-day, one person meeting with NRC staff in Rockville, Maryland, will be needed following submittal of the draft final report to review findings presented and te finalize the report, and two one-day, two person meetings with ACRi and CRGR for the resolution of GI-]S3.
