SUBJECT:
MINUTES OF CRGR MEETING NUMBER 235 The Committee to Review Generic Requirements (CRGR) met on Friday, January 22, 1993 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
A list of attendees at the meeting is attached (Enclosure 1). The following items were discussed at the meeting:

The CP,GR reviewed the proposed resolution for USI B-56, " Emergency Diesel Generator (EDG) Reliability". The NRC staff is now recommending resolution of this issue based on NUMARC Initiative SA and use of the guidance in NUMARC 87-00, Revision 1 in conjunction with existing regulatory mechnisms, without issuance of a separate EDG rule as previcusly proposed. The Committee agreed that it would be possible to achieve the Commission's objectives with respect to monitoring and maintaining appropriate EDG reliability and availability levels, but did i
not believe that the case for the recommended approach was made well in the initial package provided for review. The Committee recommended a number of changes for improvement of the package; and the staff agreed to provide a revised package for CRGR consideration. This matter is discussed in Enclosure 2.
In accordance with the ED0's July 18, 1983 directive concerning " Feedback and Closure of CRGR Review", a written response is required from the cognizant office to report agreement or disagrcement with the CRGR recommendations in these minutes. The response is to be forwarded to the CRGR Chairman and if there is disagreement with the CRGR recommendations, to the EDO for decision making.
