Dear Mr. McCarthy:
This is in response to your letter of May 18,1992 (0G-1028), concerning the NRC review schedules for Topical Reports BAW-10179P and BAW-2149.
j BAW-10179P is being reviewed in two parts; a) Mark B fuel assembly design criteria, and b) cycle reload design changes, including removal of cycle-specific limits from Technical Specifications to a Core Operating Limits Report (COLR).
On April 24, 1992, the staff transmitted to you a request for additional information on the fuel design criteria. We anticipate completion of our review and issuance of a safety evaluation within two to three months after receipt of acceptable responses to this additional information request. Our review of the second part of BAW-10179P consisting of the cycle reload design methods and COLR parameters is essentially completed.
We will re-evaluate our schedule after receipt of your response to our first part questions, and will consider issuing a separate Safety Evaluation Report on the COLR if it becomes clear.that the schedule for a complete safety evaluation will adversely impact the Crystal River 3 Technical Specification submittal.
The review of BAW-2149 is currently in progress. The staff expects to issue a request for additional information in July. After receipt of your responses, we would expect to complete our Safety Evaluation approximately three months later.
