NRC letter dated December 20,1989 from G. L. Sjoblom to A. J. Nardi, Westinghouse has removed all 1-inch valves from service in Superior lots 17 through 22 in conjunction with the NRC issued order to prohibit the use of such valves. _ Westinghouse reviewed purchasing records to determine the quantity of suspect valves purchased. Records I
indicated that 24 valves in lot 21 were purchased in 1987. Additional investigation showed that 19 were in storage, 3 were installed in cylinders and 2 were dispositioned for installation. The unused valves were tagged and removed from the area, while the 3 cylinders were tagged for j
immediately valve replacement prior to funher processing.. Of these valves,21 were destroyed while 3 were retained for training purposes after the valve body threads were removtd to prevent y
inadvertent use..No other suspect valves-were identified in a complete inventory check of approximately 1100 cylinders. These checks are still an integral part of the existing valve

inspection program.
To the best of our knowledge, Westinghouse does not currently possess any Superior valves in lots 17 through 22 that are installed or available for installation in UF cylinders, 6
