Failure to adequately perform a' radiological contamination' survey'

of an item prior to its unconditional release,

Cintichem Response

As stated in the above referenced inspection report, the ' item

found by the inspector in excess of unconditional release' limits

i

was promptly removed for storage in. the building 2 radiation-

i

control area.

On February 16, 1990 our ' Health Physics. Supervisor conducted a

work team meeting with the Health Physics technician staff to

discuss and review our site green tag procedures contained-in.the

.

Cintichem Radiological Contamination Control. Handbook and the-

'

nature of the violation.

~ From this work team meeting the: green

tag survey log book was revised to fully document the required

i

surveys of those items covered under.our site green-tag program.-

In addition,

an extensive survey of all items stored in' . and

outside the Butler building was perrormed by Health Physics on

March 24, 1990 to help assure: the appropriate control, . storage

j

and documentation of items released from radiation - controlled

i

areas on site.

Full compliance with this violation has been

accomplished and an increased awareness and understanding of our

,

site

green

tag

procedures

has -been

established

with -site

employees to help prevent a recurrence of this situation.
