METEOROI OGICA1, MONITORING INSTRUMENTATION SPECIA1, REPORT 11 ACK GROUND On the evening of March 30, 1990, it was determined that the Meteorological Information Data Acquisition System (MIDAS), which provides meteorological information to the control room, was out of service. The Computer Maintenance Unit was contacted on April I,

1990 and was unsuccessful in restoring the channel to operable status. The vendor was contacted on April 2, 1990 and arrived the next day to repair the system. Since that time, the vendor's efforts have been unsuccessful. MIDAS is still out of service at present. Meteorological information is available in the Control Room via local instrumentation from the microwave tower, if needed.

CAUSE OF MAI. FUNCTION i;

The cause of the malfunction is not known at this time. A supplemental report will be provided when our investigation is complete.

i P1,ANS FOR RESTORING TIIE CIIANNEl, TO OPEttABl.E STATUS l

The modems linking the meteorological tower to the control room are being examined as possible sources of the problem. The vendor is test 6ng spares for possible use. Work will continue until the problem is resolved.
