Canoga Pat Cahfomia 91304 lDIOFU8tional Telex: 698478 ROCKETDYN CNPK April 12, 1990 In reply refer to 90RC04753 Mr. Charles J. Haughney, Chief fuel Cycle Safety Branch Division of Industrial and Medical Nuclear Safety U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555

Subject:

Submission of the Decommisioning Plan for the RIHL Under Special Material License No. SNM 21, Docket 70 25, Issued to the Rocketdyne Division of Rockwell International Corporation.

Dear Mr. Haughney:

In accordance with 10CFR70.38(c)(2)(i), Rockwell International submits six copies of the decommissioning plan for the Rockwell International Hot j

Laboratory (RIHL).

1 As discussed with Herri Horn of your staff on April 4, 1990, the only SNM materials (excluding contamination) currently. on RIS ZAZ are calibration and check sources containing small quantities of U235 and Pu239.

As further discussed with Scott Pennington of your staff on April 11, 1990, it has now been determined that these sources will not be required for the decommissioning activities, and arrangements are currently being made for their transfer or disposal.

Once this is complete, we will document the said transfers on NRC form 314 and submit to your office.

Please call the undersigned at (818) 718-3413 if you have any questions.

Very truly yours, bY4 I
