February 27, 1990 CHAIRMAN Dr. Hans Blix, Director General International Atomic Energy Agency Wagramerstrasse 5 A-1400 Vienna Austrio
Dear Dr. Blix:
During my visit to Vienna last September to participate in the International' Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference, it was interesting to see firsthand the work of the IAEA and to have an opportunity to meet you and members of your staff, as well as to see representatives from other countries who were also attending the General Conference.
I found the Scientific Sessions taking place at that time of particular interest.
These sessions afford a unique oppor-tunity to-explore technical issues that are critical to efforts to enhance nuclear safety worldwide.
Accordingly, I would like to propose three possible topics for discussion at the Scientific Sessions.
The first of these is low and inter-mediate level radioactive waste disposal, a topic on which it would be useful to hear how different countries are approaching resolution of-the issue.
The other two topics on which discussions could be fruitful are maintenance of operating plants and plant life extension and aging.
I would appreciate your views on these suggestions.
I look j
forward to seeing you before long either here in Washington or I
next' fall in Vienna.
j Sincerely.
