APPROVAL RECORD BU-7 Shipping Container Certificate of Compliance No. 9019 Revision No. 16 By application dated January 26, 1990, General Electric Company (GE) requested an amendment to Certificate of Compliance No. 9019 to permit the use of an alternate gasket material fer the Model EU-7 shipping package.
The gasket meterial is used to seal the packaging's inner drum and prevent water inleakage.
The current certificate (Reviaich No. 15) requires that the inner drum gasket be fabricated frolt silicone rubber, Specii'ication ZZ-R-765, Class la or Ib, Grcde 50.
This amandment would also allow the inner drum gasket to be fabricated from silicone rubber, Specification ZZ-R-765, Class 2a or 2b, Grade 50.
The physical properties of the two gasket materials are essentially identien1 between -4 0'F and 500'F.
No changes were proposed in the dimensions or placement of the gacket.
Staff has determined that the proposed amendment does not affect the ability of the package to meet the requirements of 10 CFR Part 71.
The certificate is being revised to reference GE Drawing No.
112D1592, Rovision 9, which specifies that the inner drum gasket can be fabricated from silicone rubber, Gpecification ZZ-R-765, Class la or ib, Grade 50 or Specification ZZ-R-765, class 2a or 2b, Grade 50.
The certificate is also being amended to delete condition No. 9 which required that the specific marking requirements of Notes 5 and 6 on GE Drawing No. 112D1592, Revision 7, be complied with before October 1, 1988.
The marking requirements are nov required for all packages in Notes 5 and 6 of GE Drawing No. 112D1592, Revision 9.
