FIRE DETECTION INSTRUMENTATION SPECIAL REPORT On February 1,1990 the smoke detection system in the Unit 2 Component Cooling Water (CCW) Pump Room (Room #201) was made inoperable. This system was made inoperable so
)
that welding / cutting work could be performed in the CCW-Pump Room without causing spurious detection' alarms from the resultant smoke. By making the detection system.in the CCW Pump Room inoperable. Technical Specification 3.3.3.7 could not be met.
Technical Specification 3.3.3.7 Action Statement a. was entered. Since the CCW Pump Room has automatic sprinklers, the Action Statement requires a demonstration of the operability of the sprinkler s/ stem within one hour and every 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> thereafter.
This Action Statement was satisfied.
I The Detection System in the Unit 2 CCW Pump Room was restored to an operable status on February 16, 1990. This exceeds the 14 days cited by Technical Specification Action Statement b.
Therefore, a Special Report to the Commission pursuant to Technical Specification 6.9.2 is required within the next 30 days. This Special Report should include; actions taken, the cause of the inoperability and plans and schedules to restore the system to operability. This Special Report fulfills these requirements.
