Naval' Ocean Systems Center e To: Director, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Division of Fuel Cycle and Material Safety Licensing Management Branch, Washington, DC 20555 Subj: Recovery of Chambers Ref: (a) Special Material License No. SNM-1154 1. It was stated in reference (a) that: " Exposure chambers will be recovered at monthly intervals for three months and later at three month intervals". 2. A chamber was submerged on 17 September 1981 and recovered, examined, and re-emplaced on 22 October 1981. Another recovery is tentatively scheduled for the week of 23 November. With regard to December, the Safety Officer assigned to the project will be vacationing from 17 December to 10 January and a substi-tute is unavailable. It would be more meaningful scientifically to delay the recovery until after his return rather than to perform the recovery prior to his departure. 3. Therefore, it is requested that permission be granted to make the recovery during the week starting 11 January 1981. m D. B.
