JOINT MOTION OF APPLICANTS AND NRC STAFF TO RESCHEDULE HEARING By Order dated November 4, 1981, the Board has scheduled the resumption o* hearings on seismic design matters, as earlier suggested by the ~ Parties, _for the week of December 14,'

1981.

For the past month, Applicants and their consultants have been working diligently to obtain, pr,ocess, and analyze data both to answer questions raised by the NRC Staff and for purposes of fulfilling their obligation to assist the Board in compiling a complete record on the pending niatter.

In the latter connection, Applicants plan to submit additional testimony in this proceeding related to the Board's questions on seismic design questions, to the matters raised by the Board's consultants / witnesses, and to SMA records which are

(

still being processed and analyzed.

I Applicants have assessed the progress of work on these matters through November 13, 1981 and have concluded that, despite their best efforts, they will be unable to complete such work sufficiently in advance of the filing date for the Staff's supplemental testimony to permit the Staff a reasonable 8111250640 8111IS 9 SA PDR ADOCK 05000395-Gj/

opportunity to review our submission ~s.

Moreover, Applicants

~

presently estimate that they would be unable to file complete supplemental testimony any reasonable interval before the

' scheduled resumption of hearings.

Given these circumstances, Applicants and the NRC Staff have conferred and have concluded that it would be in the interests of all concerned if the hearing were rescheduled for the weeks of January lith and 18th,.1982; if the filing date for Applicants' supplemental testimony were established at December 18, 1981; and the filing date for Staff's supple-mental testimony were rescheduled tx) December 31, 1981.

The Staff schedule is contingent upon the submission of data in response to outstanding Staff questions by Applicants by the end of November, 1981.

For the for.egoing reasons, Applicants and NRC Staff respect-fully move this Board to reschedule the further proceedings in the captioned matter in accordance with the schedule set forth above.

Respectfully submitted, d
