By apo11 cation dated October 29, 1981, Technical Operations, Inc.,
requested a Certificate of Compliance for the Model No. 858 package.
The application also requested that the package design be issued an IAEA Certificate of Competent Authority as a Type B(U) packag>.e.
3 Based upon our review of the application, we have concluded that the package (Model No. 858) authorized by NRC Certificate of-Compliance 1

No. 9154 meets the requirements for Type B(U) packages.
The staff also considered the thermal effects of enclosing the package within a wooden protective. packaging. Such enclosure would not have a significant effect on the device. Since the M0 del No. 858 package has 4
been shown to meet the accident damage tests, a wooden protective package would caly have to meet the normal conditions of transport.
