Dear Sir:
This letter is a certification in support of the renewal application of Mr. Howard C. Aderhold (License SOP-308-8).
Mr. Aderhold is Reactor Supervisor in our organization and has direct supervisory responsibilities for both the TRIGA and the Zero Power reactors.
In the chain cf authority he reports directly to me; I in turn report to the Dean of the College of Engineering and to the Reactor Laboratory Safety Committee.
Mr. Aderhold is the highest ranking non-faculty member of the staf f of our Laboratory and it is necessary for Cornell University that he continue to hold a Senior Operator License for each of our two reactors.
In his renewal application, Mr. Aderhold has described his licensed activities on both reactors during the two-year period of his current license.
I can state without reservation that he has discharged his license responsibilities not only competently and safely but also in a manner demonstrating very sound judgment. His performance has continued to be consistently of the highest quality.
In regard to operator requalification, Mr. Aderhold has satisfied the requiremente, since, as Reactor Supervisor? he is one of the two individuals responsible for conducting our requalification program and has participated directly in all aspects of the program.
(This exemption from enrulling in and completing the program is specifically' stated in Section IV.1 of our Commission approved program.)
If further information is needed in support of this letter of certifica-tion, I stand ready to supply it upon request.
