This valve is furnished by Transamerica Delaval, and installed in the engine starting air system at the site by others.
The potential defect exists in the starting air system which supplies starting air for starting the standby diesel engine. This valve is installed between the starting ai r compressor, and the starting ai r storage tanks. The function of this valve :s to allow the starting air compressor to charge the storage tank, and then prevent back-flow once the tanks are charged.
During a recent seismic qualification test, one of these valves was found to leak.
A copy of this 1etter will be sent to each of the cognizant parties listed in paragraph 2.
