Dear Air. Denton:
Reference (a) as supplemented by letters from BG&E 7/3/79 and 1/13/80 requested approval of our modifications to the linit Nos.1 & 2 spent fuel pool to install high density fuel racks. In reference (b) BG&E requested an increase in the spent fuel pool storage capacity from the previous application of 1760 to 1830 fuel assemblies.
j Reference (c) however, temporarily withdrew that request.
At this time BG&E wishes to reinstate the request to increase the storage capacity t
of the spent fuel pools at Calvert Cliffs to 1830 spent fuel assemblies.
l To obtain the additional spaces BG&E is using the Unit 2 Cask handling area which was already rendered useless for cask movement by the configuration of the recent modification.
l Reference (d) illustrates the approval of the higher number of fuel assemblies by
{
your Safety Evaluation and Environmental Impact Appraisal. However, the structural analysis were based on the lower capacity of 1760 assemblies.
