Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

Clinton Power Station Unit 2 Docket No. 50-462 This is in reply to your letter of October 26, 1981, wherein you requested clarification of Illinois Power's position on Clinton Unit 2 in view of the construction status of the unit.

Please be advised that Illinois Power Company's (IP) current activities, positions, and plans relativa to Clinton Unit 2 are:

1.

We have submitted to the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board (ASLB) a motion for severance and stay of pro-ceedings in Docket No. 50-462 Operating License (OL) 2.

We recommend that review of Clinton Unit 2 by the 3RC Staff ralative to issuance of an operating license be postponed until such time as construction of Unit 2 is substantially completed.

3.

Construction of Unit 2 of the Clinton Station has been deferred indefinitely and further expenditure of funds for construction is not authorized at this time.

4.

A request for extension of the construction completion date for Clinton Unit 2 will be timely filed as appropriate.
