CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULES FOR

WASHINGTON PUBLIC POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM UNITS 4 AND 5 This letter is to advise you that on September 25, 1981, the Supply System Board of Directors adopted a resolution implementing a deferral of construction on our WNP-4 and WNP-5 units until June 30, 1983. This interruption of construction is to be implemented in a manner consistent with preserving the asset associated with WNP-4 and 5 for later resumption of construction.
An interruption of construction is necessitated because of difficulties in simultaneous financing of all five of our plants now under construction, given the current h4h interest rates and bond market conditions.
The action to defar construction activities on WNP-4 and 5 will not change the schedules for completion of the lead units (WNP-1 and WNP-3) or our plans for submittal of operating license applications. Submittal of the OL applications for WNP-1/4 and WNP-3/5 are currento scheduled for December 1981 and April 1982, respectively.
Naturally, we expect to keep the NRC Region V Inspection and Enforcement Staff fully abreast of our plans and activities at WNP-4 and 5.
