Affirmation of Decommissioning Funds Avail-'

abiity: Re Licenses SNM-696, R-38 and R-67

Dear Mr. Crow:

Your staff has demanded that General Atomic Company affs.cm in writing that necessary funds to cover the decommissioning costs are or will be available at the end of useful life for our licensed facilities.

All this is connected with our decommissioning plan submitted 6/19/79 which indicates that our facilities have no specific useful life and instead will most probably be individually decommissioned when no longer needed in GA's program.

General Atomic is a general partnership of Scallop Nuclear, Inc. and Gulf Oil Corporation.

Sufficient funds are available to cover the various decommissioning costs and there is simply no reason whatever to apprehend that sufficient funds would not be available from operating budgets, assets, and associated reserves at any time in the future.

Very truly yours, t
