Hatch Nuclear Plant Units 162 Bechtel Job 6511-001/020 Applicable Code for ASME Section III Class 1, Piping Sized 1 Inch and Less File: A19.3/A70.0 This letter is to confirm our understanding based on a telephone conversation on October 6, 1981 between Dr. R. Bosnak of your staff and our Mr. W. F. Bennett regarding the applicable code for ASME Section III, Class 1 piping, 1 inch nominal pipe size or less.
Based on that conversation, it is understood that for a nuclear unit licensed in 1972 and for which a piping order for Class 1,1 inch pipe size or less was placed in 1971, this piping may be analyzed for stress evaluation under any applicable code case betweer the years 1971 to 1980 providing the code case selectM is used in its eatirety for the analysis.
As an example, stress analysis would be permitted by NB-3630(d) of the 1975 summer addenda in its entirety.
