NRC MONTHLY OPERATING REPORT OPERATING

SUMMARY

- SEPTEMBER, 1981 UNIT 2 The Unit began the month at approximately 96% full power due to turbine control valve oscillation problems. On 9/3/81 power was reduced to 91% full power to perform maintenance on No. 4 control valve. The Unit was brought to 100% full power on.9/9/81 and operated there until 9/13/81, when.once again power was reduced to approximately 98% due to a control valve oscillations. On 9/16/81 power was further reduced to 87% because of continued control valve oscillations. On 9/17/81 power was increased to 100% full power after the throttle pressure limiter card was replaced in order to stop control valve oscillations. The Unit operated at 100% full pcwer until 9/22/81 when power was reduced to 90% because of problems with 2E4A Feedwater Heater Extraction Line expansion joint. Later that day power was reduced to approxi-mately 75% full power per General Electric recomendations due to the expansion joint failure On 9/24/81, power was reduced to 60% because of condenser tube leaks. This was temporarily fixed and power was returned to 705 Mw electric (the G.E. power restriction limit) on 9/25/81. On 9/27/81 the Unit was taken off line to repair the 2E4A Feedwater Heater Extraction Line expansion joint and to do other maintenance. The Unit remained at cold shutdown the remainder of the month.

A revision to the Unit shutdown and power reduction form for July,1981, is attached per conversation with NRC, Mr. Phil Ross.

The change was made to Outage 81-06, dates 810703 and 810704. The type of outage was changed to scheduled from forced.
