Dear Mr. Knotts:
Thank you for your letter of Augus+. 21, 1981 in which you offer to file a document with the Board if I were to advise you that the Board is " stretching" to bring in evidence for the intervenor on the seismic issue.
I do not agree that the " implication" of my remarks at Tr.1691 is that there are instances in this operating license proceeding in which the Board would feel it necessary to " stretch" to bring in evidence for intervenor. As was made apparent at Tr. 3790-3817, our sole consideration in deciding to retain independent consultants / witnesses was our concern about the seismic safety of the plant.
If you have documents that would serve to allay our concerns regarding any serious safety issue, we would expect you to offer them at hear.'ag or at any other appropriate opportunity.
