JOB E-5590, FILE # 957-3R Gentlemen:

This will provide an update to our previous response dated July 25, 1981 to IE Bulletin 80-16. This Bulletin concerns the ambiguous output characteristics displayed by certain Rosemount Model 1151 and 1152 pressure transmitters when subjected to over or under pressurization.

Initial investigations indicated replacement of the de-fective "A" and "D" electronic circuit boards with "E" boards would resolve the concern since the "E" boards were tested by Rosemount and found not to have the problem. A quotation was obtained to purchase the required number of "E" boards.

On August 18, 1981 a Rosemount internal Bulletir. on the sub-ject was received from our local Rosemount Representative. This Bulletin revested the recent discovery that the "E" boards, after having been exposed to radiation, exhibit a similar ambiguoas output phenonmen. The level of radiation which causes the ambiguity to appear has not yet been deterimined.

Since we cannot at this time be certain replacement alth "E" boards will resolve the concern, we are doing an analysis of eal Rosemount application. There is a pressure range within which the current transmitters do not exhibit ambiguous output. We plan to investigate the maximum possible over-pressure and under-pressure Sc"/

the range where ambiguity does not occur.. If a transmitter j

maximum or minimum pressure falls outside that range, other corrective measures will be developed.

You will be advised of the results of the analysis at its conclusion.
