Report Date: June 13. 197h b.

Occurrence Date: June 3 1974 3.

Facility: Big Rock Point Plant.

4.

Identification: Control rod withdrawn time less than 23 seconds on three drives.

5 Condition Prior to Occurrence: Plant in hot standby condition to conduct drive timing tests during shutdown of unit.

Description of Occurrence: The drive timing was being conducted in an attempt to further define the cause of previous timing deficiencies. The system temperature was at approximately 400 degrees Fahrenheit and the rod drive supply vater at approximately seventy-five degrees Fahrenheit. Three drives timed at less than 23 seconds for full withdrawal stroke.

Analysis of Occurrence: Our analysis and hazards considerations remain as outlined in the letter of Sewell to O' Leary on 5-1-74.

Designation of Cause: Exact cause remains unknavn.

9 Corrective Action: The control rod drives withdrawal rate set valves vill be adjusted and the drives retirad in both the cola and the hot conditions prior to and during the next start-up.

Percanent corrective actions are as outlined in the above-mentioned 5-1-Th letter.
