USE OF NEUTRON ABSORBERS FOR CRITICALITY CONTROL (Application Amendment N14)
With reference to activities authorized by SNM-1097 at the General Electric Company Wilmington Manufacturing Department, GE hereby requests authorization for the use of neutron absorbers in criticality control.
NRC License SNM-1097 currently allows calculative methods for criticality analysis to be used for establishing the appropriate safety limits of defined processes and operations (reference,w g3 4. g Section 5.2.1 and Appendix A-5.1.5).
However, the neutron y

o - A criticality safety analysis which uses the GEMER Monte Carlo code to evaluate the effectiveness of cadmium as a primary criticality control for the GE rad waste / quarantine tanks.
o - A technical report for the project that provides desertptions of the fuels manufacturing operation's rad waste / quarantine tank system, its use and the cadmium panel assemblies.
o - The recommandro wording for the requested amendment to our current license as it appears in Sections 4.2.2.5 and 4.2.2.6 of the 5/27/81 license renewal application.
