Dear Ms. Adensam:
The following information is submitted in response to requests made by Mr. Mike Mallory in telephone conversations on September 1. 1981.
1.
With regard to Generic Issue A-24:
a.
Offshore Power Systems will qualify safety-related equipment in accordance with NUREG-0588, Category 1 requirements.
NSSS equipment supplied by Westinghouse will be qualified in accordance with generic agreements between Westinghouse and the NRC.
b.
Offshore Power Systems' plans for qualification of safety-related equipment will be sumitted to the NRC prior to equipment purchase.
In making this commitment, Offshore Power Systems expects that Staff review of qualification plans will take place within a reasonable period of time so as not to d.May equipment purchases.
2.
With regard to Generic Issue A-26:
As stated in Amendment 26 to the Plant Design Report (Page B.18.2-5), Offshore Power Systems will provide an automatic system to comply with the requirements of Branch Technical Position RSB 5-2.
3.
With regard to Generic Issue A-31:
Amendment 26 to the Plant Design Report (Pages B.18.2-3,4) addresses Branch Technical Position RSB 5-1.
As stated in the Plant Design Report, the Floating Nuclear Plant design either meets the requirements of RSB 5-1 or will be revised as necessary to do so. An exception is noted in the case CD109170351 010902 f Residual Heat Removal System isolation valve interlocks.

.e Page Two September 2, 1981 Offshore Power Systems does not agree with the requirement that these interlocks be diverse. Offshore Power Systems will defend this position during the final design phase or will provide interlock diversity if ultimately required to do so.
We trust that this information will enable the Staff to complete in timely fashion its preparation of SER Supplement 4.
