September 11, 1981 the Reference 4-1 for strong mction (a > 0.1 g) earthquakes recorded on firm ground.
I For the Fermi 2 site specific SSE, a ground particle velocity was determined to be 4 9 in/sec. for the N-S component and 4.5 in/sec for the E-W component.
These velocities were deter-I mined by integrating the ground acceleraton time histories in the N-S and E-W directions.
As larger ground particle velocities lead to higher stresses, the 7,2 in/sec. value used in the Fermi 2 buried pipe design is conservative.
