U S Nuclear Regulatory Co==ission Washington, DC 20555 DOCKET 50-155 - LICENSE DPR BIG ROCK POINT PLANT - SEP TOPIC III SEISMIC DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS By letter dated July 27, 1981, Consu=ers Power Company provided a description of our planned program for the evaluaticn of the seismic design adequacy of the Big Rock Point Plant. A portion of this program involved completion of work initiated in 1979 on the major plant structures, pri=ary coolant system and portions of other plant systems. A preliminary copy of the report for this work was infor= ally provided to the staff en June 9,1981.
Consu=ers Power Co=pany has now completed its review of this report and has discussed ec==ents in detail with our consultant. A copy of the revised report entitled " Seismic Safety Margin Evaluation, Big Rock Point Nuclear Power Plant Facilities" (August 1981 Revision) by D' Appolonia Censulting Engineers, Inc., is tereby sut=. ited for NRC consideration.
Although there are ec==ents which are still bein formally addressed by our e
consultant, our detailed discussions have indicated that none of these con =ents should affect the methodology or conclusions of the report.
If the methodology or ccnclu.sions are affected by the work in progress, however, we would expect to provide additional infomation to supplement this report.
3ecause of the size of the report and the expense associated with color repro-duction, only a li=itea nu=ber of copies are being distributed.
It is important that the colored original reports rather than black-and-white reproductions be used by the NRCs reviewers.
It is our intent, therefore, that one of the copies transmitted herewith be provided the NRCs centractor for this review.
