(1) The information regarding surcharging of the BWST valve pits and associated crack monitoring requested July 15, 1981 by D. Boyd and J. Kane is being forwarded by cover letter dated July 21, 1981.
Express copies to NRR and IE-RIII will be delivered today and are being mailed to the U.S. Arny Corps of Engineers, Detroit District.
This matter is impacting construction and expedited review is requested by CPC.
A.
If the Corps receives its copy by July 27, 1981, Mr. J. Kane and others will provide staff comments on July 23 letter by telecon on Ju?y 30, 1981.
(2) The borings and sampling for the revised location of the eight interceptor dewatering wells for the Service Water Structure have Deen completed. What information does the staff need for its reviev?
A.
CPC should provide a letter stating the results and its cor.clusions as to whether the material encountered is adequately protected by the filter pack on the basis of the visual and lab test classification results. Summary of the lab results should be enclosed with the letter.
(3) CPC stated that the same technical specification, QC instructions and CPC overinspection plan used for the twelve interceptor wells previously approved by t.RC will also be used for the balance of the plant area dewatering wells. Other than documentation of this statement, what information does NRC need for approaval of well installations of these remaining area dewatering wells?

I respond, Mr. Kane indicated that past staff comments on the pencnent dewatering systen review should be checked, particularly 50.54(f) Request 47 and from the draft Corps letter of April 16, 1981 provided CPC during the oral deposition of J. Kane. The NRC would also need reasonable assurance that the gradations of foundation materials within the depth interval where the remaining well screens are to be placed are adequately protected by the filter pack. A more conplete NRC reply will be provided about August 21, 1981.
(S) When will the draft 4/16/81 letter request of the Corps (which is being revised based upon the meeting of May 5-7, 1981) be issued?
A.
At the noment, Mr. Kane's higher project priorities include hearing supnert, seismic spectra reviews, BWST surcharge, dewatering installation, and dike and DGB boring / sampling resul ts.
Issuance of the revised letter requests are not expected until after mid-September.
(5) CPC's report on crack analysis requested by the Naval Surface Weapons Center and due July 20, 1981 will be delayed until August 10, 1981.
(6) The staff requested that a visit by its Caseload Forecast Panel to assess overall completion schedules be scheduled about August 25-27, 1981. Discussions should be held at a location readily acces:ible to the public.
(7) Discussions also included the general status of the overall OL review.
