SUMMARY

OF A PUBLIC MEETING WITH SOUTHERN NUCLEAR OPERATING COMPANY ON JANUARY 30, 2020 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a Category 1 public meeting with Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) on January 30, 2020. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss SNCs license amendment request (LAR)19-019 regarding reconciliation of environmental conditions inputs to civil structural design licensing basis.

The meeting notice can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under Accession No. ML19322C819. The meeting notice is also posted on the NRC public website. Enclosures 1 and 2 are the meeting agenda and attendance list for the meeting, respectively. The other documents referenced during the discussion can be found at the ADAMS Accession Nos. given below:

V. Hall Summary of Meeting:

Technical Discussion of LAR-19-019 Regarding Reconciliation of Environmental Conditions Inputs to Civil Structural Design Licensing Basis On January 30, 2020, staff from the NRC conducted a public meeting with representatives from SNC to discuss LAR-19-019. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss SNCs proposed replacement language when describing changes of design temperature for thermal gradients on page 24 of LAR-19-019, Enclosure 1. The NRC staff clarified that the replacement language should specify that the design specifications for the physical design, qualification, and operation of systems and components were not adversely affected, and that the proposed changes align the impacted sections of the licensing basis with the temperature inputs used in the physical design, qualification, and operation of systems and components. SNC agreed with the staffs clarifications and alignment was reached regarding the proposed language.

At the conclusion of the presentation, there was an opportunity for the public to provide comments and ask questions. There were no comments or questions from the public.
